Children’s Day Celebration- 1st October

“Sama, sama….” Does this song remind you of the “not so long ago days” in your life? It did remind our principal, Mrs Lim, of her childhood days when she sang this song. It was once again Children’s Day! The one day in a year specially dedicated to all the children around the world.

On 28th September, Mrs Lim, Madam Asrinah, Mrs Jacinta Lim, the staff and pupils got together in the hall to celebrate this special day. Mrs Lim, the Chinese Department Staff and some Primary One pupils sang and danced. Madam Asrinah and the afternoon staff put up an upbeat dance for the pupils and not forgetting the ‘Lion King Dance’ put up by some of the PM teachers too. Of course, the Lower Primary teachers also had their share of fun performing the “High School Musical 2”, which was a sequel to last year’s dance. We really hope our pupils enjoyed the show and had a happy children’s day!

Mid Autumn Festival - 21 Sep 2007

The celebration was graced by our Principal Mrs Lim, our two VPs Mdm Asrinah and Mrs Jacinta Lim. They also became the judges for the Pri 1 Lantern Parade compeitition. It was amazing that within a short time, our little ones could show off their lanterns and also performing ‘cat walk’ in front of a big crowd and the PM teachers. The mini-concert also included performances by YZPS Guzheng and Chinese Dance group. The legend of the mid-autumn festival and riddle guessing game added delights to the celebration. Finally, congratulations to all the creative winners of the lantern making competition.

In the morning on the same day, photo slides of this year lighting-up ceremony in the Chinatown was shown to all from Pri 3 to Pri 6. Many thanks as well to all teachers and pupils on stage and behind the scene who made this event possible.

Learning Journey to the Singapore Zoological Gardens

Learning Journey to the Singapore Zoological Gardens

The primary one pupils had a learning journey to the zoo on Friday the 3rd of August 2007. It was organized by three of the level teachers, Miss Roza, Mrs Yeo and Mdm Surah. The main objective was to get pupils to learn more about the animals that they had been introduced to through the Big Books that they have read throughout the year. In particular, it is in line with the Big Book entitled “Short, Tall, Big or Small.”

At the zoo, not only did the pupils walk around to view the various animals, they also had a lesson entitled “Animals, Animals, Animals!” They were introduced to different groups of animals for example, vertebrates and invertebrates and they were also introduced to their different characteristics. The pupils learnt terms like mammals, warm-blooded animals and cold-blooded animals.

As pupils viewed the animals, they had to complete some worksheets in the form of a booklet specially prepared for them by the organizing teachers. Pupils got to identify the animals and look out for details that they might have missed before for example, the animals’ eating habits, their body covering and their habitat.

Although the pupils and teachers were tired after the trip, it was indeed a beneficial and fun one.

P1 and P2 TAF Games Day

Lower Primary Family Games Day

In line with our Strategic Thrust, Character Our Focus, we believe that promoting healthy lifestyle will enhance the pupils’ well-being. As such, Yangzheng Primary School organized a Family Games Day for Primary 1 and Primary 2 TAF Club members. The aim of the activity is to enable pupils to recognize the need to exercise and to introduce fun filled physical activities to the pupils. Our parents were encouraged to attend as some of the games were specially created for parents’ involvement. This was in conjunction with the National Family Week 2007. Parents and pupils had a great time playing the games such as the “Piggy-back” and the “3-legged race”. Parents were given souvenirs and pupils were given certificates for their participation.
