Learning Journey to the Singapore Zoological Gardens
The primary one pupils had a learning journey to the zoo on Friday the 3rd of August 2007. It was organized by three of the level teachers, Miss Roza, Mrs Yeo and Mdm Surah. The main objective was to get pupils to learn more about the animals that they had been introduced to through the Big Books that they have read throughout the year. In particular, it is in line with the Big Book entitled “Short, Tall, Big or Small.”
At the zoo, not only did the pupils walk around to view the various animals, they also had a lesson entitled “Animals, Animals, Animals!” They were introduced to different groups of animals for example, vertebrates and invertebrates and they were also introduced to their different characteristics. The pupils learnt terms like mammals, warm-blooded animals and cold-blooded animals.
As pupils viewed the animals, they had to complete some worksheets in the form of a booklet specially prepared for them by the organizing teachers. Pupils got to identify the animals and look out for details that they might have missed before for example, the animals’ eating habits, their body covering and their habitat.
Although the pupils and teachers were tired after the trip, it was indeed a beneficial and fun one.
